There was a time in the early years of my business when I forgot the importance of personal projects. I forgot the joy the of dreaming something up and putting it to action. I forgot how special it is to make something just for yourself – to stretch you, to try new things, to better understand your voice and eye. This year, I made a promise to myself to make room in my schedule for these personal projects. Carrie and Christian were so sweet to volunteer their morning for this one.
I woke up at 4:30 a.m. to get my gear together and head to Cincinnati. When Niko and I arrived at Alms Park as the sun was peeking up over the horizon, it was more beautiful than I even imagined. There was a gorgeous hazy fog over the city. Birds were flying in and out of trees, chirping happily. The only other people at the park were a group of women practicing yoga. It was peaceful and dreamy and just what I needed to get into a creative jive. I officially love sunrise sessions!
I took a more curated approach to a typical couple’s session for this one. I elevated the sophistication. We ordered gowns from Rent the Runway (great experience) for a luxe wardrobe to match the overwhelming beauty of our portrait locations. I was most interested in creating an environment where Carrie, Christian, and I could really connect to create portraits that felt lovely, intentional, and honest.
Carrie and Christian – I’m so grateful for you two and your up-for-anything attitudes. I hope these images are such a blessing to you like they are for me. I’m so fond of you both.
